The Curriculum Manual & Study Guide uses The Covenant with Black America and the original standard Covenant Curriculum reading list compiled by Professor Cornel West (Princeton University) and Eddie S. Glaude Jr. as foundational documents to create a study aid for community learning.
The Manual guides the reader through what may be unfamiliar terrain, putting the Curriculum's material in context, pointing out the major themes of the various works, and suggesting different approaches and how the materials relate to each other. The Manual also incorporates enrichment activities, projects and cooperative learning strategies to ensure that the rich substance of the Covenant Curriculum is real and accessible to everyone.
